解説：
南米に分布しているCaraboctonusとHadruroidesからなる科。比較的乾燥した場所に生息しているようです。Hadruroidesは、沿岸域に生息する種のほか、アンデス山脈沿いに分布しており、標高3,000m付近に生息する種もいます。沿岸の砂場もしくは、岩場やサボテン・低木域に生息しています。
以前本科に含められていたHadrurusとHoffmannihadrurusとはそれほど近縁ではなく、アメイロサソリ科 (Superstitioniidae) と近縁とする研究結果が示されています。
