解説：
北米に分布しているHadrurusとHoffmannihadrurusの2属からなる科。以前はスナサソリ科 (Caraboctonidae) として、南米のCaraboctonusとHadruroidesと同じ科とされていましたが、ゲノム系統解析の結果から、CaraboctonusとHadruroidesとは近縁な関係にないとされ、独立した科として提唱されました。 本科のサソリは乾燥した砂地に生息し、体長120～130mmと大型で、giant hairy scorpions (ジャイアントヘアリースコーピオン) の名称で知られています。
