解説：
Hemiscorpiusという1属のみで構成される科。長い間、コガネサソリ科に含められていましたが、2000年に科に格上げされました。本科と同じくコガネサソリ科と近縁と考えられているカワリサソリ科 (Heteroscorpionidae) やヤセサソリ科 (Hormuridae) を本科に含める分類もあります。
西アジアに分布するHemiscorpius lepturusは非常に強い毒をもつことで知られており、イランでの動物毒による死亡事故の95%はこのサソリによるものだそうです。
