解説：
全種が眼を欠く、色素が薄い、脚が細いなどの洞窟性の特徴をもち、洞窟内や洞窟付近の石の下・落葉中に生息しています。洞窟内の地下700mよりも深い場所に棲んでいる種もおり、最も深い場所で発見されたのはAlacran tartarusで地下916mだそうです。体長は10mm弱の種から70mmの種まで様々です。
